"...These sheets, crudely marked with words in a straying blue
pencil, are mounted on four L-shaped sections to form a cross on the
wall, with four pages of cloudy-blue paper with typewritten notes
placed on the wall on either side... The work presents a mystery.
But in this piece Susan Hiller does not try to solve the mystery in
terms of what the words mean, or where they 'come from'. She uses
them to reflect on her life from several directions. For example,
how is one defined as an individual person? Where are one's edges
and limits..."? |
